The idea was to create a character that could be rendered in a style reminiscent of my childhood.

I thought about Dragon Ball Z from the Great Master Akira Toriyama, but I couldn't find the right character to pay homage to.
While searching, I came across Baphomet; I initially drew the figure as male, since that is the most well-known form but then I experimented with a female version and liked it better than the male one.

I tried out various poses before settling on the one you see here.
Then, I played around with color palettes from other characters until I found one I liked.
Finally, I chose the color scheme of Piccolo from Dragon Ball Z.
